Speech, Language and Literacy

Often people ask how to improve a child's speech first without realizing how intertwined oral language- speech is with literacy development.
Here are a few nice pictures I found on Google images to show the steps that listening and speaking are the first steps.

BUT AS I HAVE GOTTEN OLDER, I LOVE FALL BECAUSE OF THE CRISP AIR COMING ON, DIFFERENT PRODUCE LIKE PEACHES AND APPLES.  THERE IS SURGE OF NEW ENERGY WITH PEOPLE GETTING HYPED ABOUT STARTING SCHOOL AND ALL THE FALL SPORTS.

WHATEVER FANCIES YOU FOR FALL, I HOPE YOU WILL "FALL IN LOVE WITH LEARNING"  I LOVE TO LEARN!!!  I WOULD SAY IT'S MY PASSION TO LEARN AND TO SHARE IT WITH OTHERS.
              

SPEECH AND LITERACY CONNECTION

BYU hosted an all-day workshop by Kelly Ferquharson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP on the connection between
Speech Sound Disorders (SSD) and Literacy. Here is the handout that was given.
It was very enlightening. The takeaway message I got and implemented was to screen each child with a phonological awareness screener before you dismiss the school-age child.

INTENSIVE SUMMER SPEECH PROGRAM

The Annual Intensive Summer Speech Program (ISSP) 

       Celebrating Ten Year!  

I work with speech sound disorders, stuttering, voice, receptive-expressive language issues, literacy, auditory processing, social-pragmatic issues and accent modification, 

Here is a brief description.

What is it?: It's a three-week intensive speech program. (Research has shown a positive impact on maximizing progress with intensive programs (Four days in a row being optimal.)

ACTION: You can designate the frequency to be seen 1 to 4-day option. (Most come 4 days as this is optimal for intensive purposes). 

Where and when is it held?  It's held at the A+SpeechTherapy 1379 S 740 E. Orem UT 84097. From June 11 - June 28.  Some clients have requested to start June 4 for Camp reasons, All sessions will be held between 8:00 am to 12:30 pm or so.

ACTION: Contact me if you need to start on an earlier date than June 11th.

How much does it cost? The cost is the same as a regular 30-min session per client. For the intensive sessions, you get an additional 15-minutes per session = 45 minutes for $50 per session. This is a huge benefit, more time for the same price. 

ACTION: All sessions are paid at the beginning of the program. 

Please feel free to pass this information on to anyone you feel would benefit from this service. They will have to schedule an evaluation first for all newcomers as soon as possible.  

This only comes around once a year.
