Speech Therapists Get Inside View With New Device

What to look for in a speech therapist.
Here are a few basic things to look into.
1. Correct Credentials; they should have completed a masters program and be nationally certified.
For speech therapy they should have MA, CCC-SLP  or MS, CCC-SLP, next to their name.
2. Experience working in the area you are searching for.
3. Be on major referral lists: University Lists, Public School List, National Speech list (ASHA list) (American Speech Hearing Association)
4. Special organization list: e.g. I'm listed under the Stuttering Foundation of America List.
5. Be licensed with your State; occupational and professional license.
6. Have a city business license - if a private provider

The therapist should at least "enjoy" if not "love" their work and their clients.  This makes a huge difference with building positive rapport for successful sessions.

It's a good time to listen to your children's speech.  Remember to encourage them to talk and to focus on their content (message).  Let them know 4-5 positive things to one fix it.
If they need more help than one fix it,  You may want to consult your local professional speech language pathologist (SLP.)  They are good at fixing all sorts of speech and language issues.

HERE ARE SEVERAL PLACES TO CHECK FOR SLP PROVIDERS
1. ASHA.org http://www.asha.org/
2. State occupational and professional Providers: https://secure.utah.gov/llv/search/search.html
3. insurance company listings. (I won't be on that list, as I'm not an insurance     provider).  Many good providers are not insurance providers.
4. Your local school district may have a list of private providers,
5. Your local Universities may have a list of private providers.

SPEECH TECHNOLOGY HIGHLIGHT

I USE ALL THE SPEECH TECHNOLOGY THAT THEY SHOW ON THE VIDEO LINK BELOW AND SO CAN YOUR CHILD AT HOME.
Technology is a good way to encourage speech homework.  Kids like to "show-off" their technology skills by showing you how they navigate IPads and Computer programs.
Kids as young as 6 can use their speech apps proficiently thus getting more quality speech practice.

SUMMER BREAK-TREAT VACATION

Oregon Beach is a great place to relax and rejuvenate oneself.

The weather was fabulous with lots of ocean treasures; tidal pools with starfish and I found lots of whole sand-dollars.  I was able to have wind-free walks in the morning and lots of sun in the afternoon.

Visual displays help students "see" their tongue placement, the audio waves show the voicing and volume.  This allows the students to "see" if they are having correct placement and voicing when they need it.

SUMMER BUCKET LIST

Summer is a great time for fun and adventure, whether by yourself or a group of friends. With the weather being somewhat decent, depending where you live, it is a time to try new  activities. Don't know what to do?  Think of things that make you happy, and things you want to try and put them on your summer bucket list.  I for one love to find waterfalls, go on picnics, and bike ride.  I'm hoping I will try going down a lazy river (a real river) this summer.  We'll see if that happens.  If it happens, I will post it! (Are you waiting with baited breath?)

Better Speech Month

Autism Awareness Month.
Utah now has several public "charter" schools specially designed for those with moderate to high functioning autism.  Check out Clear Horizons-(located Provo Utah) and Spectrum Academy (located in SLC, and soon in Pleasant Grove Utah).
